Ducati Monster 769

Diposting oleh Unknown

The motorcycle that singlehandedly started the streetfighter craze (arguably our favorite bike trend here at LIAS) is back in its perfect size: the Ducati Monster 796. The Monster 796 is the perfect synthesis between sports performances, aesthetics and daily riding pleasure — combining the user-friendliness of the 696 model with the sports performance of the 1100. The mid-range Monster features Ducati’s brand new air-cooled L-twin Desmodue 796 engine at its heart, which boasts 87 hp while weighing in at just 368 lbs (167 kgs). Moreover, as should be expected of such an aesthetically pristine Italian brand, the Monster 796 comes out of the box available in a variety of beautiful colorways — all part of the Monster Art project, Logomania. Logomania plays tribute to famous Ducati logos and historical color schemes that span more than 50 years of brand heritage. First introduced in 2009, the Monster Art project offered an additional 10 colors, 3 of which will be retained for this 2010 model range, as well as introducing 7 new schemes. Consisting of tank panels, micro-bikini fairing, single-seat cover and front mudguard, the kits have become a unique method of Monster personalization, making it the perfect way to ease yourself into a Ducati. And for around $9,995, the money’s more than right, too.

Sanctuary RCM

Diposting oleh Unknown on Rabu, 08 Desember 2010

Sanctuary RCM Kawasaki Z1-R

Mention Japanese customs based on Kawasaki and the name Sanctuary will pop up. Like Bull Dock, Sanctuary modifies the Z1 and other models like the older Ninjas but they also apply their magic to the Suzuki Katana and the Honda CB1100F. High end components throughout, brakes, suspension and new swing arms plus lots of frame strengthening and engine work results in their RCM line, the Real Complete Machine. Vintage machines with all modern components, these bikes look great but they're not just show, Sanctuary races what they build.

Like shops here in the U.S. customizing and rebuilding old Harleys, over in Japan, you have a strong support community for reworking the old Japanese standards and superbikes. The look is refined and they seem to have all of the weak spots worked out. Obviously, going this route isn't cheap, high quality work never is, but if your taste runs along the lines of the old Z1, Sanctuary might have what you're looking for.

Brickyard Killer

Diposting oleh Unknown on Senin, 06 Desember 2010

The land of national bikini teams, fjords, and Ikea furniture is not exactly the place you would expect to find a raw and ready custom motorcycle inspired by American drag racing and the Indy 500 scenes of the 1960s, but that is exactly what the Brickyard Killer is.

Built by Hogtech and Paul Funk in Eskilstuna, the Brickyard Killer is pure industrial motorcycle art.

From the architectural Hogtech/Paul Funk Design girder suspension raked out 40 degrees with custom Hyperpro shock in the front, to the brutal Mickey Thompson ET Front tire designed for cars, dragsters, and land speed racers at the bike's rear, it is unorthodox, to say the least.

Putting power to that huge slab of rubber is an 1800cc S&S Knucklehead-style motor that was massaged by the brain trust of Hogtech, and the Dutch pair of Joop's H-D Service Centre and Supercycles.

An integral part of the horsepower enhancement is the Eaton M45 supercharger-designed for autos and light-trucks-modified by Paul Funk, and a two-throat Edelbrock carburetor.

For reliability, "every engine part was measured, re-aligned, straightened, and machined to fit with the lowest possible tolerances of free play," according to Funk.

If you are planning on riding the Brickyard Killer, good luck bringing this beast down from speed; there is no front brake, and the rear wheel/front tire combo is slowed by a twin hydraulic drum brake system that is a collaboration of Kustom Tech, PF Design, and Chop 76.

Rather than chrome, the Brickyard Killer gets sand blasting and nickel plating. Paint was applied via spray can.

Mobil's iconic Pegasus is the primary graphic touch, though Hogtech's logo, inspired by Champion Spark Plug's design, makes a conspicuous appearance on the oil tank.

Is it art? Or is it performance? The Brickyard Killer's raw motorcycle appearance speaks for itself, and if it pulls up next to you at a stoplight, racing for pinks is not recommended.

Technical

Engine totally re-engineered (blue printed: every engine part measured, re-aligned, straightened & machined to fit with the lowest possible tolerances of free play) by Joop van Amelsvoord and PF at Supercycles. Paul Funk customized Eaton m45 compressor with Edelbrock Two Throat Carb, Engine assembled with 90% fluid gasket material, Special remachined S&S HVHP oil pump with 1 to 5 gear ratio. S&S flywheels, S&S/ PTP Supreme con rods(machined for centrifugal piston lubrication system), restrictor free S&S crankshaft with Jims crank pin and custom con rod/crank pin bearings, Ross racing pistons with twin cam wrist pins, Power Seal Nikasil cylinders. Heads welded in PTP/ Supercycles style bathtub combustion chamber & Singh groove, Kibblewhite custom valves (smaller in, bigger and higher positioned out), ported & flowed, Supercycles cam, Kibblewhite extra strong cylinder studs, Crane time savers, Fuel pump in lower custom Gas tank by Hogtech.

SpaceSter Sportster

Diposting oleh Unknown

Tired of Old School and of New Old School style custom motorcycles? If it’s possible to classify it, should I place SpaceSter in a new category to be called “Tomorrow’s School?” First, let me say that this “from another planet” creation is born in the Southwest of France and during the winter European show tour already won a flight to Sturgis to compete in the 2011 AMD World Championship Of Bike Building.

Custom builder Buck (a.k.a. Bernard Massart) from a shop called VTM (V-Twin Mechanic) is unable to sketch, doesn’t know how to draw with a computer, but must have a CAD program buried in his brain. Is there another way to explain such perfection in aerodynamics? Would be curious to know the results of a wind tunnel study of SpaceSter versus a stock Harley Sportster. Yes, this machine where everything flows perfectly with absolutely nothing sticking out, is or was a Sportster. And the first reason why it’s quite difficult to find out its pedigree is because the engine is wrapped in a cover mimicking the Harley engine fins, making it look like one solid block motor. Exhaust looks like it belong to the engine and disappears in a custom under-frame cache where the 2 pipes join with a discreet exit on the bottom left of the bike.

What looks like an oil tank with fins matching perfectly those of the engine, gives access to the battery and electricals. So, where is the oil circulating? In the top right an left members of the custom tubular frame with no oil lines fittings to be seen. To add to the confusion, the front oil filter and bracket have been removed. A louvered chin ensures that engine receive enough cooling air. Identity of SpaceSter front end is also difficult to detect, most of the tubes disappearing under covers. Suspension comes front a set of Yamaha R1 inverted forks. No master cylinders on the bars.

They have been relocated inside the body, Front brake and hydraulic clutch are actioned by small levers on the bars. Body work is as fluid as it can be, from front to rear where the frenched taillight and the license tag look like they are belonging to the fender. The best custom Sportster I have seen in a very, very long time. It’s Buck second ptoject in the style “Tomorrow School”, (he calls his approah “Bio Design”), the first one being born in 1996 and called Aquamarine. Will this style stick and inspire other builders? I let you judge. See it in August 2011 in Sturgis where it’s already a favorite. VTM V-Twin Mechanic.

Roll-X by Creative Cycles

It’s rare and hard to find something truly different than the rest. Something outstanding. Such is the case with this custom trike from Doug Keim Creative Cycles. Dubbed Roll-X, it represents true work of art, a masterpiece.

What separates Doug Keim from the rest of custom builders is that he have 1 of only 17 ‘Certified Master Bike Builders’ in the world title. His bikes are not just custom creations, they are DOT and NHTSA certified, new vehicles!!!

Here’s what Doug has to say:
A custom motorcycle should be unique, a one of a kind. It should challenge tradition. It should provoke thought. Foremost, it’s quality should reflect the time and effort that went into crafting it. A Doug Keim Creative Cycles product may not always be the least expensive, however if innovation, pride, quality and craftsmanship are important to you, then your decision is simple … “Quality is Priceless”.

Radical Ducati Café Veloce

The Radical Ducati Café Veloce. Based off a Ducati Sport Classic, the Café Veloce features the same DS 1000 air-cooled two-valve motor, and steel tube frame as the now discontinued Ducati, but grows upon the Sport Classic’s cafe inspired lines.

Tastefully refining the Café Veloce into a sleeker and more dynamic package, Radical Ducati has created the Café Veloce to be devoid of Ducati’s more bland touches to the GT1000.
