Harley Davidson Sportster motorcycle that was produced since 1957 by Harley-Davidson Motor Company. Specified in Models Sportster Harley-Davidson's product code by beginning with "XL". In 1952, the predecessor to the Sportster, the Model K Sport and Sport Solo motorcycles, were introduced. These models K, KK, KH, and KHK of 1952-1956 has a flat head engine, while the later Sportster XL models use an overhead valve engine. The first one in 1957 featuring many of the same details including the KH frame, fenders, big gas tank and front suspension.
Harley Sportster motorcycles are powered by 45-degree V-twin engine in which the two connecting rods, from the "fork and knife" or "knife & fork" design, share a common crank pin. Harley Sportster engine is original Ironhead engine, which replaced the Evolution engine in 1986. Sportster engine, the 45 "R, D, G & W Model 1929 side-valve motor, and the 'Big Twin' side-valve motor, which is: Flathead 74 cubic inch (1213 cc) Model V, VL etc. (1930 to 1936 ), Model U and UL (1937-1948), and 80 cubic inches (1311 cc) Model VH and VLH (1935-1936), Model UH and ULH (1937-1941) have four separate cams, sporting one lobe per cam.
